- How far is the Sataya Reef trip and how long does it take?
- Sataya Reef is off the coast near Hamata, well south of Marsa Alam. The road transfer is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours each way and the whole trip runs about 10 hours.
- Is Sataya suitable for beginners?
- It is doable for beginners — life vests, a guide and snorkel gear are included — but it is an open-water reef, a long day and the sea can be choppier than at Samadai. Nervous or first-time snorkelers, and families with young children, are usually more comfortable on the Samadai trip.
- Do I need to send my passport details?
- Yes. Passport copies are required one day before departure so the sailing permit can be prepared. You will be contacted by email and WhatsApp the day before to confirm your pickup time.
- Can I swim with the dolphins at Sataya?
- You snorkel near the lagoon in small guided groups and dolphins often pass close, but touching, chasing and feeding are not allowed and the guide sets the distance. Sightings are never guaranteed.
- What is included?
- Hotel pickup and drop-off, air-conditioned transfers, the boat trip with two snorkeling stops (Sataya Reef and Crystal Temple Reef), snorkeling equipment and lunch aboard. National park fees and a local government tax (about €15 per person) are paid locally.
- How many people are on the boat?
- The Sataya trip is capped at 15 guests, and snorkeling is done in small groups with a guide.
